It's Wednesday again, and we're nearly at the end of this round of ABC Wednesday.
Today's letter is
Y
Y
is for
YOKE
I have a small collection of bells, mostly brass.
This is one of my bells.
It is about 2.75 inches (7 cm) tall.
The bell is in the shape of a lady. It's made in a pale yellowish brass that was once painted over with black. The clappers, instead of being inside, take the form of two buckets which swing against the skirt making a very pleasant sound. These buckets are attached by chains to a
yoke
which the lady carries across her shoulders.

What a clever bell. I have a few bells, including the one my grandmother used when she taught school in Kansas in the 1890s.
Spot on... ting-a-ling.
A very ingenious Y!
Lovely picture !Original choice !
miss Yves
Indeed! "Yoke" Is a good choice for "Y"-Wednesday!
Over at San Francisco Bay Daily Photo, "Louis" and his editor Yell at each other both in the text and in the comments...
This is a very different bell. It looks old.
Good idea for "y"!
I liked that bell, and you had 2 y's to go with it. Very clever!
Interesting picture.
The first yoke I have seen! Nicely done.
I missed last week so here are 2 Y's! Neva and
Neva2
What a sweet bell, Miss Dragon! Looks like from the old times. The sound of some little bells is really pleasant. Isn't a shame I don't have oe]ne yet??!
Have a great ABC day!
Kisses.
Wow, very original. I love this bell and the clappers on the outside.
Very neat! Great use of the letter Y!
Great post and different.
pop and see my Y.
Very interesting choice for Y and a bell collection sounds like a fine choice too. Just the word yoke conjures up all sorts of images, yes?
Nice post. Happy Wednesday!
Ah...VERY nice! A clever and unique post for today. Well done, YOU! :D
That is an unusual bell, just right for Y.
Cool bell. Great choice for "Y"
This such an original Y subject! Both the bell and the photo of it are beautiful. My husband collects bells. I collect dragons.
Nice shots and good idea for the letter!
Very original Y! Thanks for visiting mine:)
What a beautiful and unique bell. Have you shown others on your blog from your collection that I missed?
I never even thought of yoke. Good going!
Yoke is a good Y word.
It was the center of last Sundays Gospel.
Yoke it up! LOL
Yoke is an excellent choice. Rare these days! :)

Oooooooo... that is a beautiful bell! Very unique and quite the conversation piece! I really do like it a lot...
Good choice for Y.
My mum had some brass ornaments. I remeber the cleaning process, never seen such black dusters! LOL!
Interesting idea for a collection! Bells are hard to find, especially ones that actually sound really clear. I was lucky to find mine and here you are with an amazing collection!
Is that a lady in Welsh national dress?
Thank you all for your lovely comments.
I've managed to find a few over the years, and I've been given some, but there's always room for more. Maybe I'll show them to you sometime.
Cherrypie, this was described to me as a Lady in Dutch Costume - but it looks Welsh to me!
Your lovely little bell is a clever choice for our Y theme, Dragonstar! There is something very comforting about the sounds of little bells.
