ABC Wednesday - Y

It's Wednesday again, and we're nearly at the end of this round of ABC Wednesday.
Today's letter is
Y

Y
is for

YOKE

I have a small collection of bells, mostly brass.
This is one of my bells.
It is about 2.75 inches (7 cm) tall.

The bell is in the shape of a lady. It's made in a pale yellowish brass that was once painted over with black. The clappers, instead of being inside, take the form of two buckets which swing against the skirt making a very pleasant sound. These buckets are attached by chains to a
yoke
which the lady carries across her shoulders.

See?

For a lot more Y posts, visit our host
Mrs Nesbitt
who came up with this great idea.

Have a good Wednesday.

What a clever bell. I have a few bells, including the one my grandmother used when she taught school in Kansas in the 1890s.

What a sweet bell, Miss Dragon! Looks like from the old times. The sound of some little bells is really pleasant. Isn't a shame I don't have oe]ne yet??!
Have a great ABC day!
Kisses.

Very interesting choice for Y and a bell collection sounds like a fine choice too. Just the word yoke conjures up all sorts of images, yes?
Nice post. Happy Wednesday!

This such an original Y subject! Both the bell and the photo of it are beautiful. My husband collects bells. I collect dragons.

My mum had some brass ornaments. I remeber the cleaning process, never seen such black dusters! LOL!

Interesting idea for a collection! Bells are hard to find, especially ones that actually sound really clear. I was lucky to find mine and here you are with an amazing collection!

Is that a lady in Welsh national dress?

Thank you all for your lovely comments.

I've managed to find a few over the years, and I've been given some, but there's always room for more. Maybe I'll show them to you sometime.

Cherrypie, this was described to me as a Lady in Dutch Costume - but it looks Welsh to me!

Your lovely little bell is a clever choice for our Y theme, Dragonstar! There is something very comforting about the sounds of little bells.
