Saturday PhotoHunt - Rock(s).

I'm late again.
In fact, life's been so busy that I nearly forgot!
Still, I didn't have to search very hard to find photos of rocks. Living here, rocks feature quite frequently in photos. My main problem was deciding between 'arty' shots of rocks and shells or rocks and seaweed, and the more picturesque scenery.
I finally decided on this one, taken a few weeks ago at Roshine, Burtonport, Co Donegal.
Plenty of rocks here.

A large stone by the sea in Burtonport, erected in memory of eleven local men who lost their lives when two boats sank over 30 years ago.

ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - P.

I'm sorry I missed last week, I've not been 100% fit.
I'm not posting double letters this week, just the letter P.

P is for PIER.

I grew up knowing that a pier was built out over the sea on great wooden posts. This pier in nearby Burtonport, is a strong modern version of the piers I knew.

When I came to Co Donegal I discovered that local custom named jetties, quays and slipways all the same. They are all piers.

This is a view along the refurbished pier in Dungloe, facing away from the town. If you walk along to the end, beyond the furthest lamp, there are steps leading down to the water - if there's any water at low tide!

Dungloe Bay is long and shallow, with no water at the pier when the tide is low. The water you may be able to see at the foot of the steps isn't sea, it's part of the water from the river which runs across the shore.

Odd Shots On Monday

This is the Lobster Pot Restaurant in Burtonport.
The story goes that the owners wanted this outsize lobster fixed to the roof, but were advised against it because the strength of the wind straight off the sea would lift both lobster and roof. So now the lobster climbs the wall.

The pavement (sidewalk) here is very narrow, and the building is single-storey. The lobster takes up a lot of space!
