The Weekend in Black and White

Before Christmas I slipped on some ice and pulled a tendon in my leg. Many nights were spent sleeping (if that's the right word!) downstairs in a chair. The days were spent scooting about in my computer chair. Then I was lent a pair of elbow crutches - what a difference! Now I can get about a bit more.
These are the crutches, just waiting for me to get up and walk.
Maybe I have too much imagination, but I think they have a very kind and caring look.

I WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST IN 2011.
MAY THE BEST OF THE OLD YEAR BE THE WORST OF THE NEW.

The Weekend in Black and White

This pretty silver decoration was a present from our (then) tiny grandson last year.

I hope you all have a wonderful festive season.

Snowy Sunrise

The front of our house faces roughly west.
I was looking out of the window about 9 o'clock this morning just as the sun was rising behind the house.
This is what I saw.

This was the view slightly to my right.

This was a short time later, taken between the two buildings on the far right of the previous photo. The hill is the island of Arranmore, and the houses are catching the glow of the newly risen sun.

I wouldn't mind if we had no more snow this winter, but it can certainly make things look very beautiful.

The Weekend in Black and White

I have some lovely, heavy, dragon bookends.
They sit all the time facing away from eachother.
Today I'm showing them face to face.

The Weekend in Black and White

Two weeks ago I posted about Aileni having a toe operation. He's recovered beautifully, but he hasn't been able to get into the shower yet. Our hand basins are too small for hair washing, so I had a word with my hairdresser (she 'does' men's hair too) and off we went for a wash and cut.

Doesn't he look pleased with himself?

The Weekend in Black and White

We have had a week of unusually early winter. Normally our autumn hangs on past the end of November, and snow waits until after Christmas. This year is different!

I took this photo in our neighbour's garden last Sunday.

Visit the Home Page for a great collection of black and white photos.

The Weekend in Black and White

Last Tuesday I spent several hours in the waiting room of the Day Services Department of Letterkenny General Hospital while Aileni had a toenail removed.

Shortly after we arrived there I became fascinated by the false ceiling. Not very much after that I started finding it oppressive, and then it began to give me a headache.

It was easier to concentrate on a small section, much enlarged through my camera.

It was more comfortable looking at closer objects, when I could ignore the ceiling. I liked the way this chair seemed to be trying to move away from the over-warm radiator

The Weekend in Black and White

This is a view of another Letterkenny shopping area, taken from outside my favourite café.
You may be able to see, on a facing wall, a notice pointing to an Overspill Car Park.

This is the carpark, or a part of it anyway. I wouldn't like to park there!

Vax

I've been wanting a new vacuum cleaner for ages, but I've not really been able to justify the expense. After all, we had one that worked. I just didn't like it much.
Then last week Hubby and Youngest Son spotted this upright, bagless cleaner in Tesco - reduced. They bought it for me.
I should have taken a photo before using it, but I was desperate to try it.
So this is it after I used it on the hall and living room carpets.

And here's a close-up of the dust cylinder.
Don't forget, this came from just two carpets!

I'm in love!

The Weekend in Black and White

This week I have three photos to show, all taken in Donegal Town.

This old anchor, now holding someone's jacket, has been chained down as a reminder of earlier times.

I'm sorry that I won't be available to visit until Sunday at the earliest, but I'll get around you all as soon as I can.

The Weekend in Black and White

No 'artistic' photo from me this week, just a shot of an unusual object.
This is one of a few sun-and-wind powered street lights in a residential area of Killybegs, a fishing town in Co Donegal.

Much more interesting photography can be found through the links on the Home Page - it's worth a visit.

The Weekend in Black and White

Last Monday we were in Donegal Town.
We looked around a bit, had some lunch, then went back to the car which we'd left in a carpark beside the river.
The car next to us was clean and shiny, with lovely reflections.

The Weekend in Black and White

Over 30 years ago, in my college pottery class, I made a chess set to my own design. This week my 3rd son discovered it. He now has the pieces displayed on a shelf, all ready to use when time allows. These are some of them.
