Another fossil, this time the back end of a squid-like creature.

This shows the groove in the back end.
And here is where this part broke away from the rest before becoming a fossil. If you look very closely you may be able to see radial markings in the outer casing (which would have been the inner skeleton of the creature.)I find fossils fascinating. Firstly for their age - the numbers are almost too big for me to take in - and secondly for what they tell us about early life on this beautiful planet of ours.
Maybe I should have continued with the Dungloe theme today, but I'd planned this post weeks ago and I wanted to use it. I hope you'll forgive me.

Like you I find fossils fascinating, the same goes for crystals.

You do know your fossils. Gary's degree is geology so you can imagine he gets very excited about trilobites. Interesting find and a good spot. Not found a dicky bird here yet.

This is fascinating! My biggest find was many years ago when the geology department decided to throw out drawers and drawers full of fossils and I realized that they had discarded them in a dumpster! I recovered them and passed a few out to my cub scout troop. (Yes, that was so long ago that I still had cub scout aged sons!) With one of the cubs something about them set his imagination on fire and he dived right in to the study of them. (Is that a mixed metaphor?) He went on to become a noted paleontologist!

Like Kim, I've learned something new today! I also find fossils fascinant. Just to think these aging creatures living when manhood was only an idea... It give us ideas! And there are people who find this world boing!

Fossils are very interesting objects. My dad had a few he had collected in a cigar box. I enjoyed looking at them as a child.
