ABC Wednesday - G & Opening Doors - Day Three.

ABC Wednesday is hosted by Mrs Nesbitt, and has now reached the letter G in Round 3.

G
is for
GEODE

This picture shows a small geode and several slices. They are about one inch at the longest. A geode can look like an ordinary stone until it's cut open. The geode has been cut in half, and the surfaces polished. The thin slices have been polished on both sides for use as jewellery. If you want to read a bit more about geodes there is information here.

And for more takes on the G theme, visit the ABC Linky or the Anthology site.

And I have another G below.

And for Jientje's Opening Doors, I offer a gate.
This gate covers the old entrance to the courtyard behind the hotel in Dungloe's Main Street. It doesn't look as if it's meant to open, as it's been tied shut with rope!

Jientje always has doors worth seeing, and she has a Linky so you can find other posts with doors (does that make them door-posts?)
Pop along and have fun.

Door-posts, yes, I love it when you pkay with words!!!
I love that gate;, it makes me want to untie the ropes and go in anyway?

Thanks for the Wikkipedia link, Dragonstar, I learned something new again today.
Turns out I have one, it's an Amethyst, and it has not been polished. I prefer the natural version.
I'm going to put it right here on my blogging space, how about that? I always felt it was kind of special! Thanks!

Geodes - what an excellent G!
Gates for the doors challenge was a nice touch too.

They look very well like that - small doorways into fantasy also.

That gate looks firmly secured although I'd want to see what's on the other side.

I'm off to read about geodes! Yours are very pretty!

I don't know what Geode is and I can't see either what it is. Your gate looks a little neglected, lol ! It wouldn't be hard to break in !

Having that door tied closed only makes me want to enter even more!

The rope just makes me want to open that gate even MORE! What's back there??? *gettin' out my pocket knife*

Anonymous said...

Hmm. Ya want to cut those ropes and check it out?
Like your geodes for G too!

I like that gate. But it just seems wrong to rope it off.

I think there could be a dragon's den back there! :)
I just loved your 'doorposts' comment - made me smile.
I've always loved Geodes since I was a child and we would see them in tourist shops.

I can't see Mr. Linky and Jientje will link me later but come by to see my doors if you have a minute.

The first time I saw a geode I was shocked! These are beautiful. I am impressed with mother nature!
Mine is here.

I would want to get in there somehow, maybe climb over? Would somebody give me a boost? Heave - ho! I love your play on words. Made me laugh. Thanks.

Oi, Miss Dragon! Those geodes are awesome. I work (for the time being...) at a jewel sowrkshop's office, so we have some here too. How beautiful is that, opening them and watching their color inside?

Great post, and loved the locked gate!

Kisses from us.

Oh my.
I have a Geode also.
But I didn't know what it was called.
Thanks so much for the information.
Whenever visitors come over I will proudly show off my Geode.
