Today's theme for the Saturday PhotoHunt is FREE. Being the kind of frugal (read miserly!) person that I am, I immediately thought of special offers. You know the kind of thing - free sample, so much extra free, buy one get one free - all the labels that gladden my heart when I'm shopping for essentials. So here's my first offering.Fat balls to feed the wild birds.
We have a load of garden visitors at this time of year, all keen to sample what's on offer. These fat balls are very popular, so I was thrilled to find this offer. The picture only shows three packs because the fourth is already in use!
I remove the balls from their net bags and serve them in a feeder, ever since discovering small birds with damaged or missing feet. I was told they get caught in the mesh, which is too strong to break and ends up cutting them. That really upset me, and now I always remove the bags.
The second shot shows the only birds to co-operate with my desire for a shot illustrating free. Naturally, the birds are starlings. These birds travel in flocks, and descend like the biblical locusts. They approve of the Birdy Bistro (thanks Damama t for that title!) They are flying from our one remaining small patch of grass to reach the food. Flying free whenever they wish.

The birds also give us a great deal of FREE pleasure.
Great take this week! We all love freebies for sure:)
Fat balls....I'm assuming that this means some of it is suet?!! Good idea.
My 'free' photo is shared...come by and visit ---it's there for your viewing, for 'free'. Oops, no I guess not --it's costing money to use the computer of yours and being online. Oh well, stop by for a visit, if you can!!!
Both of those are great examples of free! The birds who visit our bird-feeder like those kinds of food balls too. :) And we enjoy watching the birdies!
Thanks so much for the tip re the mesh. I would never have thought of it - I have a cat at the moment so don't hang things out for the birds but I will bear it in mind for the future.
those birds are sure lucky because they are given FREE FOOD. ;)
btw, thanks for checking out my entry for this week. :) see yah again next week. ;)
Great idea - but the Birds? Only one that would be "shot" for the presentation of FREEdom.
oh i love freebies too!

We feed all the birds at The Swamp. So many varieties, so many mouths. Aren't they lovely?
As long as the free goods are consumable and in good condition, why not?
My free post is here.

i was thinking of posting the same free stuff that i got too but couldn't find the photos lol..nice entry huh..
I love free samples!
Thanks for dropping by. Happy hunting.

Those fat balls look a little bit delicious!
Free bird viewing, that sounds nice :) Love the 'buy 1 get 1 free' deal too!! :P
Fun take.
Great post! My folks are very frugal ;-)
That's really good to know... about the mesh bags... that would be upsetting when it defeats all the purpose.
YAY for freebies =)
Happy Hunting!
Many definitions and interpretations of free today. I've used a bird in a different one, though "free as a bird" came to me. Most birds don't sit still long enough for me to get their picture.
Happy Hunting - you did a great job on the "free" theme!
Thank you for stopping by my take on "free". Welcome back any time ;)
Birdy visitors to the garden are great and they just love fatbalss. Good job yours were on special offer. Sara from farmingfriends
That's a good offer and very useful for the bird life. Great take on this week's theme. Happy weekend
You got those for free, wow good for you! Good choice for the theme. Happy weekend!
FREE RIDE
Fat balls, what an enticing name, not. Still the birds don't care what they are called I'm sure. Lots of free as a bird posts this week but all different and interesting.
Have a good weekend Dragonstar
Free food for the birds, yay! Thanks so much for stopping by and I'm glad you liked the little Costco story as much as I did. I laughed my head off! :)
Great "free" post and photos!
Happy Weekend.
Lovely! I also like it when I get free stuff of what I buy. I also got birds for my post! They are almost always what comes to mind when one thinks of 'free.'
great take on the free theme - love the bird! :)
Happy weekend!
Great choice! HAppy hunting.
I heard about the mesh damaging birds feet so I always remove it, I too get a flock of starlings visiting the garden everyday. I love watching the birds feeding - one of lifes pleasures.
The birds are fun to watch!
free stuff are great. the birds symbolises freedom in many ways.
thanks for the visit. :)
When my sons were small we used to make fat balls for the birds - pretty messy! You're lucky to get any birds to co-operate I find. i've tried quite often to catch a photo, but no...
Oh, the amount I've 'saved' buying 3 for the price of 2 when I didn't actually want any!!
But they're free, I tell myself!drwpio
"Free like a bird" what can be more free?
Graet choice for this week.
Thanks looking by!
Good idea to feature free products feeding the birds for free. The starlings do come in droves when they spot food. I hope you have a good rest of your weekend.
i love buying the buy one get one free things. Great photos for this week.
Where can we git some free cat treats? Or are birds considered free treats?! Hehehehe
How nice. We love watching birds at our bird feeder, so the free balls would mean lots of birds flying around looking for a free meal.
You love birds and provide them free feed. They are free to enjoy as they wish. How nice.
Thanks for visiting my hunt. Have a great weekend.
Both of these are great for Free. Have a nice weekend...
That is absolutely the best FREE thing I've seen in ages. And thank YOU for thinking my silliness was good enough to repeat! LOL! xoxoxo
I very nearly included a free golden sky dragon in my post as well
with such a generous spirit, i'm sure you'll never want for company from your fine feathered guests =] any chance you'll throw some free nice human food for your site visitors? hehe
I also know that "buy two get three" and you only need one, lol !
Thanks for explaining what fat balls. Frankly, the mind -- that is, my mind -- was thinking up very weird things upon first reading that name!!! ;D
i've no idea what fat balls are. what are those made of? fat?
i also enjoy getting freebies.
Morning Sniffles
A good round of freebies. Free things from groceries and the carefree birds enjoy their freebies too...
Have a good weekend!

I love to feed birds and also buy those fatballs. Unfortunately nothing free. Never heard that small birds might damage their feet eating from the nets around these fatballs. Will keep an eye on it as from now.
Have a nice Sunday.
the bird idea is so cool. unheard of concept in my world
Nice capture for FREE PH.
I love the buy one get one free offers, too. Love the birdie bistro!
Recently I took pictures of some starlings foraging in our yard. I also captured them in flight on my camera video. Thanks for sharing such nice photos. Have a nice night. Happy Photo Hunting~
Those birds are lucky to have free food!!

Never heard of fat balls for feeding birds. I loved the pictures of your feeders. Keep up the great work! Also thanks for visiting.
Very interesting, Fat Balls!
Never have seen them, but looks like the birds have and love 'em!
What a great deal! And it certainly looks like the birds are enjoying the free meal, too. ;o)
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a great week!
I'm sure the birds enjoy the free food. Thanks for visiting mine.
oh what a great shot!
Oh, I LOVE this shot :-)
In the place I live in we seldom feed wild birds at home. I guess it's the weather and also the different culture. :)
Love the take on the theme and the Birdy Bistro!!
Wow, I'm overwhelmed at all these comments! Thank you all so very much for your kind words - I appreciate them greatly.
haha! nice one. ^-^
I also love those buy 1 get 1 free. ^-^
I love bargains, and getting things for free if I am getting something. The birds do fly free, and they are happy to partake in a free lunch. Who doesn't like a free lunch? Thanks for visiting.8
Free stuff glandens my heart too.
We have a wonderful collection of birds in our yard also, but we are still under a few feet of snow.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Great pics, I especially enjoyed the free balls :)
That's a wonderful thing to do for the birds. I admire people who are kind to animals.
Free as a bird! That was kind of my first thought too!
