Saturday PhotoHunt - Free

Today's theme for the Saturday PhotoHunt is FREE. Being the kind of frugal (read miserly!) person that I am, I immediately thought of special offers. You know the kind of thing - free sample, so much extra free, buy one get one free - all the labels that gladden my heart when I'm shopping for essentials. So here's my first offering.Fat balls to feed the wild birds.
We have a load of garden visitors at this time of year, all keen to sample what's on offer. These fat balls are very popular, so I was thrilled to find this offer. The picture only shows three packs because the fourth is already in use!
I remove the balls from their net bags and serve them in a feeder, ever since discovering small birds with damaged or missing feet. I was told they get caught in the mesh, which is too strong to break and ends up cutting them. That really upset me, and now I always remove the bags.

The second shot shows the only birds to co-operate with my desire for a shot illustrating free. Naturally, the birds are starlings. These birds travel in flocks, and descend like the biblical locusts. They approve of the Birdy Bistro (thanks Damama t for that title!) They are flying from our one remaining small patch of grass to reach the food. Flying free whenever they wish.

If you feel like joining the Hunt, visit tnchick for details, or click on the logo at the top. Happy Hunting!

Fat balls....I'm assuming that this means some of it is suet?!! Good idea.

My 'free' photo is shared...come by and visit ---it's there for your viewing, for 'free'. Oops, no I guess not --it's costing money to use the computer of yours and being online. Oh well, stop by for a visit, if you can!!!

Both of those are great examples of free! The birds who visit our bird-feeder like those kinds of food balls too. :) And we enjoy watching the birdies!

Thanks so much for the tip re the mesh. I would never have thought of it - I have a cat at the moment so don't hang things out for the birds but I will bear it in mind for the future.

Great post! My folks are very frugal ;-)
That's really good to know... about the mesh bags... that would be upsetting when it defeats all the purpose.

YAY for freebies =)

Happy Hunting!

Many definitions and interpretations of free today. I've used a bird in a different one, though "free as a bird" came to me. Most birds don't sit still long enough for me to get their picture.

Fat balls, what an enticing name, not. Still the birds don't care what they are called I'm sure. Lots of free as a bird posts this week but all different and interesting.

When my sons were small we used to make fat balls for the birds - pretty messy! You're lucky to get any birds to co-operate I find. i've tried quite often to catch a photo, but no...

Oh, the amount I've 'saved' buying 3 for the price of 2 when I didn't actually want any!!

But they're free, I tell myself!drwpio

Good idea to feature free products feeding the birds for free. The starlings do come in droves when they spot food. I hope you have a good rest of your weekend.

I love to feed birds and also buy those fatballs. Unfortunately nothing free. Never heard that small birds might damage their feet eating from the nets around these fatballs. Will keep an eye on it as from now.

Have a nice Sunday.
