Saturday PhotoHunt - Self

This week's PhotoHunt theme is SELF,
which has been explained as
yourself or part of you.

I wouldn't want to give you pictures of parts of me - most of them don't stand close scrutiny these days! - and I didn't really want to post someone else's photo. So off I went looking for reflections.

I have two for you.

In my kitchen I found my stainless steel ladle.

And there's a mirror in the hallway.

That's me.

For a huge collection of interesting SELF photos, visit the one-and-only tnchick who had this great idea.

Happy Hunting!

ABC Wednesday - S

Time for ABC Wednesday again, and we've reached the letter S.

I thought I'd Share another of my birthday presents, so
S
is for

SEAL

When I learned some pottery-making, many years ago, we called these "pebble pots"
You make two bowl-shaped pots and stick them together, then add what decoration you wish.
This one has been adapted to form the shape of a SEAL's head, then glazed to bring out the large dark eyes.
Second Son thinks I should put it in one of my water-garden bowls!

(editing - Petunia asked about the size of my seal. I can hold it in two hands. It measures roughly 9.5cm high by 17 long. And no, I didn't make this, it's beyond my abilities!)

For more ABC Wednesday participants, visit Mrs Nesbitt's Place.
And have a Super Wednesday!

Cameraphone

I love my cameraphone. It's like having a pocket-sized 3.2 megapixel camera which just happens to double as a phone.

I took this picture while out (again!) with the dog.
My little camera let me get quite close to this bee on a red clover flower.

When I got home I cropped the picture to remove some of the background, and this is the result.

I know the quality isn't what it could be, but this is a mobile phone after all.

I like it a lot!

Odd Shots On Monday

Monday again.

I took most of yesterday off to work out a knitting pattern (more of that at another time) so I'm later than usual with this today.

The plastic flowers from last week disappeared yesterday, but just a few yards down the road I found this.

This sign is at the end of our entry road. In the manner of most such signs it stands over six feet high at the top.

What? You've never seen one decorated like this?

That's a kiddy's plastic bucket hooked over the top of the post.

For more interesting and unusual Odd Shots, visit Katney.

Have a good week.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Shoes

I've mentioned before that I love ear-rings.
I have a large number.
Recently I decided that I needed some way to store them so that I could see them easily and find the pairs I wanted .
I bought a jewellery tree to hang some of my dangly ear-rings.

Here it is.

Now, as it happens, this week's theme for the Saturday PhotoHunt is
SHOES.

What could be more suitable than my new jewellery tree?

For more SHOES visit TNChick.

Happy Hunting!

ABC Wednesday - R

ABC Wednesday is hosted by Mrs Nesbitt.

This week's letter is
R

R

is for
ROSEMARY

This is part of the Rosemary bush in my herb garden.

I love the smell of Rosemary.

R
is also for
Returns

MANY HAPPY RETURNS
to my dear husband
whose birthday is today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AILENI!

More Plastic Flowers!

The plastic flowers are proliferating.
This is part of the verge on the other side of the road from yesterday's post. This is a much wider strip of grass, which is now decorated with tufts of coloured daisy-like plastic flowers.

Badger can't understand why this bunch of roses smells of plastic rather than flowers and leaves. She has to check it out each time we pass.

I suppose it makes the area look cared-for.

Odd Shots On Monday

It seems that I live in an odd neighbourhood.

Our road has a very narrow strip of grass along part of the fence - a very long and very narrow triangle.

This is what I saw last Wednesday.

One of our neighbours has decorated this strip of grass with plastic roses!

For more Odd Shots, visit Katney.

Have a good week.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Candy.

This week's theme for TNChick's Saturday PhotoHunt is

CANDY

This is my favourite candy, used both as an occasional treat and in certain recipes.

Candied (or crystallised)
Ginger.

Garden Visitors

This afternoon I was just about to step out through the kitchen door when I saw this at the end of the garden.

Two baby chaffinches looking so sweet!

Then along came Mother with some food.

Mother flew off, and so did one of the babies.
The other one stayed for a rest.

Fast asleep in the sun.

ABC Wednesday - Q

Wednesday again, the day Mrs Nesbitt hosts ABC Wednesday.

Today we've reached the letter Q

Q
is for QUARTZ

These are three quartz pebbles, each with one face polished both to reflect light and to show off the beauty of the interiors.

This one is clear quartz, sometimes called rock-crystal.

This is Rose Quartz.

This is Amethyst.

Aren't they beautiful?

The funny thing is, when I bought these I was told that pebbles of this kind are sometimes known as ...
wait for it ...

DRAGON EGGS!

Happy Wednesday to you all.

Odd Shots On Monday

Time for Odd shots on Monday again, hosted by Katney.
Visit her for the rules and for other participants.

This may not look like much of an Odd Shot at first glance, but look closely.

This wire cable stay runs from the top of a telephone post to the steel eye embedded on the ground. There's an eyelet provided for the cable, to prevent it wearing where it runs through the ring. Can you see it?

Yes, it's hanging loose in the ring!

Having seen this I made a point of examining the other posts in the vicinity (OK, I know I'm nosy!)
Several others were just like this. The ones that were correctly set were in the minority. Maybe it was thought they looked better like that?

Have a great Monday!

Saturday PhotoHunt - Any Photo!

Today we have the freedom to share any photo we want.

Now that's hard!

How do I choose?

I looked and looked, then I decided to share this one with you.

I took this recently with my camera-phone while out for a walk with my doggy boss. The sun was still low, but very bright. I liked the shadows and the contrasts.

To see what others have chosen, visit TNChick.

Happy Hunting!

ABC Wednesday - P

It's ABC Wednesday again, hosted by Mrs Nesbitt, and this week the letter is P.

P is for

PYRAMID and PRISM.

Last Thursday I showed you my birthday jewellery, and I said I'd had another present I'd show you later.
Well, today is "later".

Stephen gave me a beautiful glass paperweight, a colourful
PYRAMID

The colours change with changing light, because the Pyramid is also a Prism.

Can you see what's inside the prismatic pyramid?

Yes, it's a dragon.

Now you wouldn't have expected that, would you?

For more Posts beginning with P, visit the Participants you'll find at Mrs Nesbitt's Place.

I should be able to start visiting again tonight or tomorrow, as my daughter's leaving today.

Have a good Wednesday.

Odd Shots On Monday

Katney hosts Odd Shots.
Visit her for the rules and more participants.

This is my Odd Shot.
The thistles are starting to grow, and the rosette (before the central stem grows tall) looks like a green star in the grass.

This may not be as sharp as it could be - I took it with my camera-phone.

Happy Monday everyone.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Time

Time
for Saturday PhotoHunt again.
And
this week the theme is -
TIME

I present two clocks from my garden,

Dandelion Clocks!

This was the way I first told the time,
blowing the seeds

One o'clock ...
Two o'clock ...
...

For more TIME photos, visit tnchick who hosts PhotoHunt.

I have visitors, so I may not be able to visit much this week, but I'll do what I can.

Happy Hunting!

Birthday

It was my birthday today.

Look what my darling husband gave me!

A beautiful silver dragon pendant with matching ear rings.

How lovely is that?

I had other things too, but I'm keeping them for another occasion.

My elder daughter and her man will arrive tomorrow for a few days, so I probably won't be around a lot. Sorry if I don't get to you for a bit.
