ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - F.

F
is for
FIRE STATION

When I first visited Dungloe in 1991 this was the Fire Station.
There was just room for just one appliance, and the door opened onto the main road just past the junction with a side road. Far from ideal.

Recently a new Fire Station was built. Dungloe has grown, and this new building houses two appliances to serve the expanding area. There is also parking space for the crews.

Irish - Stasion Doiteain; English - Fire Station.
Denise Nesbitt started ABC Wednesday.

They are both so small and cute, like firestations in kids books.

I have always loved the arcitecture of the fire stations, there are something about them. I often drive pass an old one in the country-side and I imagine how it would be to turn it into a house to live in.

Great photos/ Tyra

The old one has personality, but I'm sure the new one is more useful.

Nice Fs and they sort of remind me of the way things are down in the Florida community my late parents lived in

Fifty years ago we lived just down the hill from where we now live. The area was unincorporated and had a volunteer fire department with one fire engine. It's a lot different today!

Nostalgic photos. Thank you!

Well, the firefighters must be happy with their lovely new place. Do they keep you under extra surveilance because of all your dragons?

I once lived in a house three doors away from a volunteer fire station, which was very similar to the one in your first picture.

Even people who long fot the good old days have to appreciate the better service from the new station.

The new one looks much more useable, for sure. Nice post!

Those pics remind me of home! Until about 5 years ago, the town where I live in Sicilky didn't even have one fore station, of any sort!

Very interesting buildings.

How nice to see the contrast between then and now. You look a bit safer with the the modern station...but it might be quite the same. New isn't always better. ;-)

Good choice for "F". Quite a bit of difference between the old and the new.
