Saturday PhotoHunt - Thankful.

This week's theme is
THANKFUL

I'm so thankful for spring!

I'm also thankful to TNChick for the weekly PhotoHunt challenge and fun!

True Colours Thursday - Brown.

Before I start this post, I want to apologise for not managing to visit many ABC Wednesday participants yesterday. My internet connection became painfully slow, and commenting proved very difficult. Things seem better today, so I should be able to get around everyone - at least, I hope so!

Right. Time to get on with today.

This week's colour is
BROWN
I have so many pictures of brown items in varying shades that I found it hard to choose. You'll just have to put up with a collection.

First, some tumble-polished Tigereye.

Second, the brown wood of my dresser, where many favourites live.

Third, what many of you have been waiting for, a brown wooden dragon sitting on a brown surface.

And lastly the golden brown of the carved wooden Welsh Dragon that hangs on the wall.

Those are my offerings this week.
For more brown pictures, please visit Poopsie-Blue who started this fun idea.

ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - F.

F
is for
FIRE STATION

When I first visited Dungloe in 1991 this was the Fire Station.
There was just room for just one appliance, and the door opened onto the main road just past the junction with a side road. Far from ideal.

Recently a new Fire Station was built. Dungloe has grown, and this new building houses two appliances to serve the expanding area. There is also parking space for the crews.

Irish - Stasion Doiteain; English - Fire Station.

Two Fer Tuesday.

A few mornings ago I looked out of my kitchen window.
A fine rain had been falling, and recently stopped, so I went out to smell the spring-like air.
I found pussy-willows wearing diamonds!

Then the sun came out!

Two Fer Tuesday is simple - just post two linked photos (or more, but they must be in pairs) and link back to Jonna who started this idea.

Odd Shots On Monday

There's a narrow lane I often take as a short-cut to the supermarket. This lane runs between two houses and their gardens, and is much used by local school-children. I suppose that's the reason for putting this poor, lopsided lamp in a cage - unless it's to prevent escape!

Odd Shots on Monday is hosted by Katney, who collects a good number of oddities.

Monochrome Monday

This is the doorway to the old Chapel in Dungloe, which is now a Community Centre and Library. As you can see from the flowers, I took the photo last summer! There are reflections in the glass, and shadowy shapes to be seen inside.

Monochrome Monday was started by Aileni.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Warm.

This week's PhotoHunt theme is
warm.

This is the first thing that came to mind.

This warm red dragon is about 4 inches tall.
Yes, that's smoke you can see.
He's a holder for incense cones, and the smoke pours out of his mouth.

What could be warmer than a smoking, fiery dragon?

True Colours Thursday - Blue.

BLUE
comes in all shapes and sizes
and many shades.

A blue building in Main Street.

An old cobalt blue jug.

A beautiful tall vase bought for me many years ago by my husband.

A pale, pearly blue hatching dragon baby.

ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - E.

The name for Ireland, in its own tongue, is Eire.
This name occurs in many forms in many business names, even in their English names.
One such business is Eircom (which I assume derives from Eire Communications or some such title.)
Eircom is the main Irish telephone provider. Eircom powers my telephone line and my broadband connection.

The above photo shows the local Eircom telephone exchange and radio masts. The smaller mast dominated the skyline when we arrived in Co Donegal in 1990. That's hard to believe now, when I look at the size of the newer mast!

My second photo shows evening light on the sea front. The sun is so low that it's shining through the supports of the seat, making patterned shadows on the wall.

ABC Wednesday is hosted by Mrs Nesbitt. Participants can be found on the dedicated Linky page. Feel like joining in? Then publish an E post and sign in.
Have fun!

Odd Shots On Monday

Monochrome Monday is the post below.

Found in the fruit & veg section of my local supermarket, just before Valentine's day!
I hid behind a pillar and snatched this quick shot.

Visit Katney for a list of Odd Shots.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Nautical.

I took this some time ago with my old camera, so the quality isn't quite what I've come to expect. It's still one I like, which is why I'm posting it today.

It's the lifeboat on the stern of the small ferry in use at that time. I've always liked the sight of a small boat hitching a ride on a bigger one!

Many more Nautical photos can be found at the home of the PhotoHunt.
Come on in, the water's fine!

True Colours Thursday - Silver.

Silver is one of my favourite colours.
My problem this week has been deciding just what to post!

This silver-coloured jewellery box was given to me by my youngest son - as was the leaf necklace shown with it.

This is a close-up of the lovely pattern on the lid.

I thought I'd found enough silver pictures.
Then I realised that my kitchen is full of silver-coloured items!

True Colours Thursday is hosted by Poopsie.
If you fancy joining the fun, just post something silver and pop over to leave a comment on her blog. Next week's colour is BLUE.

ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - D.

This week is an easy one for me.
Obviously,
D
is for
DUNGLOE

The original Irish name means The Grey Steppingstones.

Just to the left of the top picture can be found the Dungloe Day Centre.

The next sign I want to show you is that of Doherty's Travel. Doherty's runs buses throughout the area, and also hires coaches for trips as far afield as continental Europe.
And here are their town garages, and their booking office.

When your trip is over, Doherty's also have a restaurant on Main Street - nothing fancy, but the meals are filling and you can take them with you if you're short of time.
It's a colourful building!

ABC Wednesday is hosted by Mrs Nesbitt.

Another view of the bridge I posted on Saturday, taken from a different angle.

Odd Shots On Monday

It's amazing what you can find while shopping.
This week I was looking for some rice, and this is what I found.

It claims to have an easy opening bag, but it looks to me as if the box is even easier to open!

Odd Shots is hosted by Katney. You'll find many more Oddities over there!

I'm a Fairy.

I was over visiting Debbie at Tiny Treasures, and she's been discovering her Fairy Name. Naturally, I had to have a go!
This is my Fairy Name - though I think I'm a rather unlikely fairy!
I should produce a photo - but then again, maybe not!!!

Your fairy is called Columbine Elfglitter
She is a cheerful sprite.
She lives in mushroom fields and quiet meadows.
She is only seen in the light of a shooting star.
She wears lilac and purple like columbine flowers. She has delicate green wings like a cicada.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Bridge(s).

The theme this week is bridge(s).

This foot bridge spans the Dungloe River near the sea shore. It's narrow and surprisingly steep. On the right is an unsurfaced carpark, on the left a field and a kiddies' playground. I would not like to push a stroller over this bridge!

Edited later to show the bridge as I'm about to cross it.
It looks a bit like the bridge to nowhere.

TNChick hosts the PhotoHunt.
Visit her to find more participants or to join the fun.

Happy Hunting.
