Odd Shots On Monday

This is the Lobster Pot Restaurant in Burtonport.
The story goes that the owners wanted this outsize lobster fixed to the roof, but were advised against it because the strength of the wind straight off the sea would lift both lobster and roof. So now the lobster climbs the wall.

The pavement (sidewalk) here is very narrow, and the building is single-storey. The lobster takes up a lot of space!

More Odd Shots can be found on Katney's Kaboodle. There's always something worth seeing!

Monochrome Monday.

A chunk of wood beside an old dry-stone wall.
It looks as if the wood has been used as a chopping block.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Protect(ion).

My son is a motorcyclist.
He wears special clothing to PROTECT himself when riding.
The greatest protection is his riding helmet, which has a drop-down sunshield to further protect his eyes in bright sunlight.

For many more protective posts, visit TNChick. She came up with this great idea.

Happy Hunting!

True Colours Thursday - Rust.

This week's colour is RUST.
I have a load of photos of rust in different shapes and sizes, but I wanted to show the colour not the actual effect.
So here's a single photo of my antique pie-funnel. Pie-funnels were used to help hold up the crust of a deep pie, and to let out the steam of cooking.
This funnel is lustre-glazed, and in the shape of a dragon - well, of course! It's about 4 inches high, and has a daft expression on its face.

Many more rust colours can be found through My True Colours. It's great fun seeing what people find.

ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - N.

We've reached the letter
N

I've posted this picture before, to illustrate the colour BLUE, but it's also useful for today. If you look closely above the bottom door you might see the words "NITE CLUB"

Here's a closer look. It all seems a bit Neglected!

Right next to the "Nite Club" is the National Irish Bank.

Just over the road is Sweeney's Newsagent, where they sell tickets for the National Lottery.

They also want No Parking outside their garage doors!
For more alphabetical Nuances, visit the dedicated page, and have fun!

Odd Shots On Monday

I thought I saw a bright blue butterfly on a low wall.

But I found an open mussel shell!

Saturday PhotoHunt - Purple.

This week's theme is
PURPLE
which is a colour I've always liked.
I've had many purple presents over the years, these are just three.

More purple posts can be found over at TNChick's.

True Colours Thursday - Lime.

I'm really struggling this week. I'd thought of scouring the shops to find limes, lime juice, lime marmalade... Trouble is, the vertigo is only just leaving me, and I've not wanted to wander around.
So instead I've searched the house for items that may (or may not!) be considered lime in colour.

Is the printing on this pouch of cat food lime?

This looks a bit more like it to me - and look, it even says lime on the bottle!

True Colours Thursday is hosted by Poopsie Blue.

ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - L and M.

Because of that wretched migraine, I missed last week's ABC Wednesday for the first time since letter A of Round 2. Ah well, can't be helped. I'll just have to do two weeks in one.

L
is for
The LUCKY INN,
Chinese Restaurant and Take Away.

And
M
is for
MILLS.
Two old grain mills right on the shore. The grain was brought in by sea and milled here. Flour cost more than many people could afford, so it was sold much cheaper by the Co-operative that ran the mills.

One mill, with the slipway right in front of it.
The steep path to the left of the photo leads to...

...the second mill.

ABC Wednesday was started by Denise Nesbitt.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Triangle.

I'm back!
Sorry I've been away. I had a horrendous migraine that started before I got up on Tuesday morning, and it's only just leaving me. I'm still finding it hard to focus at times, so bear with me if I'm slower than usual!

I've not been out taking new photos recently, so here's one from the archives. This was taken in May of last year of one of my birthday presents (yes, there's a hitch-hiking dragon in there!)
There are many triangles visible - just take your pick!

For more triangle photos, visit our hostess TNChick.

Odd Shots On Monday

Seen in a carpark recently.
I'm far from expert when it comes to cars, but even I can recognise the Mercedes symbol in the centre of this wheel.
What's Odd about that? you may ask.

This is the car to which the wheel was attached - a VW Golf!

More Odd Shots can be found at Katney's Kaboodle.

Saturday PhotoHunt - Stripes.

The theme for this week's PhotoHunt is
STRIPES

This is the sharply-curved bridge I've shown before, but this time with the sun making stripes across the path and down onto the rocks below.
If you enlarge this and look very closely, you might even be able to see stripes in the concrete path!

For more stripes visit TNChick.

True Colours Thursday - Scarlet.

Today's colour is SCARLET.

This is my friendly Welsh Dragon, a felt-covered keyring charm, which normally hangs above my desk. He's sitting on a small photo album.

I think they qualify as scarlet.

Visit the home of True Colours Thursday for more bright pictures!

ABC Wednesday, Round 4 - K.

ABC Wednesday has reached the letter K for the fourth time - although it's only my third.

I thought I'd have a lot of trouble with this letter, since it's not used in the Irish language and therefore not very common in the Anglicised names.

I knew I was OK with this first photo though. This building is just around the corner from my house. It's currently in use as an after-school play centre, but it was previously a furniture shop as can be seen from the name on the roof!

Then in Main Street I found this sign, advertising Key-cutting, as well as shoe repair, fishing tackle, and Kayaks. It's a shame that orange craft isn't a Kayak - that would have made an interesting addition to this post.

Lastly, there's this red-painted shop, which seems to want to give things away. It's a pity there's always a catch with these offers!

More K offerings can be found through the ABC Wednesday page.
