True Colours Thursday - Purple.

This week's colour is
PURPLE

I have two types of purple for you.

The first is the pinky-purple of my cyclamen flowers.

The second is the purple night sky in the picture on this tin.

True Colours Thursday is Poopsie Blue's fun idea.

ABC Wednesday - Y

ABC Wednesday, the brainchild of Denise Nesbitt, has reached the letter Y - just one more letter to go!

A search of my treasures has yielded three samples today.

First, Yellow Libyan Desert Glass. This was probably created by a meteorite strike, melting the sand to form glass. (Link here.)

Second, Yellow Serpentine. Serpentine is normally greenish in colour, but (obviously!) also has a yellow form.

My last offering is Yellow Jasper. Jasper comes in several colours and attractive patterning.

I think yellow will be a popular word this week!
To see what others have found, or to join in the fun, visit the Anthology Site or the Linky page.
Have fun!

Two Fer Tuesday..

Today I'm combining Jonna's Two Fer Tuesday with a bit of showing off.

Just so you can all see how lucky I was at Christmas time.

Mug from Second Son's Fiancee.

Ear-rings and necklace from Second Son's Fiancee, 'Cadfael' omnibus from Second Son, 'Oath Breaker' from First Son and his Lady.
Enchantica mugs from First Son and his Lady, Red glass flying dragon from Elder Daughter, dragon trinket tray from Youngest Son.
Lucky?
I'll say!

Odd Shots On Monday

I saw this sign in a local shop. Just had to whip out my camera-phone!
If I bought something called "Peanut Minis" I expect it to contain more than just traces of nuts!

Visit Katney for a load more Odd Shots!

Saturday PhotoHunt - Hope.

I'm SO late this week! An unexpected visit from my 6 month old grand-daughter rather enjoyably disrupted my blogging plans today!

The theme this week is HOPE.

We've had an unusually long spell of frost and cold winds. Any shoots above the ground were burned by the weather.
This hyacinth shoot had grown about 3-4cm above the ground. As you can see, the tips are burned, but the plant still has HOPE. The flower bud is struggling to grow and to open, ready for spring.

For more scenes of HOPE, visit TNChick.

Happy Hunting!

Seen through my window this morning.

True Colours Thursday - Gold.

True Colours Thursday is hosted over at My True Colours. This week the colour is
GOLD
.
I've been looking around all week, and I've found so many gold things that I want to share.

First, this late afternoon sun breaking through cloud.

Next, the decoration from a hamper given by Second Son in front of my brass dragon.

Third is the gold-coloured tree in our hall window.

Fourth, some ear-rings. The ones in front are a present from Second Son's Fiancee.

Lastly, my celebratory nail varnish.

That's a long post for my first of 2009.
I hope you all have a golden year!

ABC Wednesday - X

ABC Wednesday has reached the difficult letter X.

After long thought (and some research) I've decided to offer
X

for
XENOLITH

The name xenolith comes from the Greek for "foreign rock". In strict geological terms it's a rock which has become embedded in a different type of rock while the latter was in a molten state (see this article) although the definition can be stretched to include a foreign fragment included in a sedimentary rock.
So I'm entitled to stretch a bit!

The series of photos below show a rough piece of slate (sedimentary rock) enclosing an almost spherical group of bright pyrite crystals.

I would certainly not want to use that slate on my roof - it's much too pretty!

ABC Wednesday was started by Mrs Nesbitt, and more participants can be found on the Anthology site or the Linky page.

A very good New Year to all of you.
May the best of the Old be the worst of the New.
