The Weekend in Black and White

Vase

I was walking through a local shop this week, exploring the newly repositioned display cases. I saw this unusual crackle-finish glass vase, and couldn't resist taking my camera out!

Many more black and white photos can be found through the links on the Home Page.
They're well worth viewing.

I'd never have thought to take my camera with me to a shop! Think I'd be too shy :) How on earth do they make those vases??

The exposure has worked really well on this shot - strange glass.

Want an amazing capture. You really used the lighting to your advantage getting all of those crackly lines so beautifully. Pretty amazing what someone with a good eye and knowledge of how to use a camera and capture with the slick of the shutter. I would have to say this falls into the category of awesome. Happy Weekend...genie

What a crisp shot you got of this crackle glass vase, Dragonstar! I've seen them made and it's a very interesting process.

I like the crackly tones and textures. Excellent Dragonstar. People may give us strange looks as we whip out our cameras in unlikely places but we don't care. Your mastery of B&W is apparent with this one.

This is an old technique I think. I have oen piece from my parents that is at least 50 years old that looks cracked like that. But mine is like a bottle. Nice to see it. :)

A lot of shops here in Hong Kong have "no photography allowed" signs. More's the pity -- especially with the plush toy ones! ;S

The crackle glass does indeed reflect the light with delightful patterns, Dragonstar. Lovely capture! I often use a pocket digital in shopping areas.
