This reminds me of a page on beds in an old encyclopedia I had as a kid. The anvil bed seemed more like punishment, lol. I like how you've gotten the starkness as well as how it was probably a handy tool. I'd like to know what it has to do with donkeys though.
Seeing an anvil reminds me of a story I read long ago. Cannot remember the book title or the author, but they would place a tiny amount of gun powder on an anvil and hit it with a sledge hammer, making a loud Boom! to celebrate Christmas (or maybe it was New Year's Day). Anyway, they called it 'shooting the anvil' - an early form of fireworks that seems very dangerous to me.

@Jeanna: Donkeys sometimes needed/need shoes for hard and stoney sufaces. I think the tiny anvil was used for making harness rings and chains.
...they take a pounding!
@Tom: Not sure whether to laugh or groan :)
great photo!!!
nice one.
An anvil walks into a bar, and the bartender asks him, "Would you like a beer?" The anvil says, "No thanks, I'm already hammered."
Interesting, Nice captured.
Happy Weekend.
