The Weekend in Black and White.

 Abacus Bracelet

Well, a very simplified form of an abacus.
It has smooth glass beads that can be moved along the cords.
I find it useful for counting sections of complicated knitting patterns.

Many great black and white photos can be found through the links on the Home Page.

What a terrific macro image! I first saw a working abacus when I lived on a small island in the Western Pacific years ago; the Palauan woman who owned the only grocery store could add up the cost of supplies as quickly on the abacus as someone on a calculator.

Great macro and what a clever idea to use it for counting while knitting difficult patterns...better than pen and paper!

I haven't seen an abacus since each of my children had one for helping them to count. They are grown up now and my daughter has a family of her own. Stunning detail of the shape and shine of the beads.

My head is trying to wrap itself around the idea of using this for counting off complex knitting sections. I had a difficult time just remembering simple patterns. Amazing! The idea and the photo.

Imagine: in the era of high-tech, an abacus of glass beads... a vision like a reflection in b&w, indeed! Lovely idea!
