The Weekend in Black and White

Last Tuesday I spent several hours in the waiting room of the Day Services Department of Letterkenny General Hospital while Aileni had a toenail removed.

Shortly after we arrived there I became fascinated by the false ceiling. Not very much after that I started finding it oppressive, and then it began to give me a headache.

It was easier to concentrate on a small section, much enlarged through my camera.

It was more comfortable looking at closer objects, when I could ignore the ceiling. I liked the way this chair seemed to be trying to move away from the over-warm radiator

Many more black and white photos can be found through the Home Page. Why not come and look - or, better still, join in?

I've had that experience too with ceilings like that. All of these make good monochrome shots. I hope Aileni is feeling OK, having a toe nail removed sounds painful.

Do people still use those old phones? There was a time before mobiles ...........

No wonder you got a headache from looking at that roof, but I was also fascinated by that chair and the telephone. Excellent!

excellent perspective on the first image, it makes me dizzy and dont get me wrong here, its not a bad thing. it means there is a certain level of effect to the viewers and that makes it great.

I am surprised it is a ceiling. I would have thought it was some sort of fencing...very interesting and so perfect in black and white! I am guessing that radiator feels pretty nice about now...even if the chair doesn't think so.

The ceiling makes me dizzy, but the chair is quite inviting.

I'm amazed this is a ceiling. I would think it would collect a lot of dirt, not so desirable for a hospital. I like the lonely chair in monochrome.

The ceiling pattern offers a dynamic monochrome! Great way to while away waiting time noticing the little things in the environment!

One has to wonder how someone could design such an oppressive waiting room, when waiting in itself
can be painful. I wish a Aileine a pain-free recovery!

I can understand that about headache :)
I liked the last shot a lot and it does look like the chair moves away :)

Dizzying ceiling shot!
I really like the chair photo, it looks vintage, especially with the "old" phone.
Cheers,
Karen

The ceiling is dizzying, the eye has no place to settle, but it does make a good shot. I also like the chair composition.
I hope Aileni's toe is feeling better.

At least you had your camera - foolishly I did not. The Minox would have been ideal in my situation.

I get queasy in hospitals as it is, so that pattern on the ceiling would do nothing to help! I think you did the best thing, capture interesting photos in such a place!

Every detail around you gains importance in a waiting situation. Nice collection of shots!
